WELCOME TO SUNFLOWER COUNSELLING
Welcome
My name is Rebecca, and I’m a qualified person-centred counsellor. I offer a calm, supportive space where you can begin to make sense of what you’re holding. Whether that’s grief, ongoing stress, questions around identity, or the challenges of living in a world that doesn’t always see or accommodate you.
You don’t need to have the right words. We can begin wherever you are.

How I Work
I work in a person-centred way, which means the counselling process is guided by you. I offer a non-directive, respectful, non-judgemental space where you can explore what matters most to you.

Person-centred counselling is based on the belief that real change happens when we feel truly heard, accepted, and understood. Rather than offering advice or trying to fix things, I aim to be alongside you, listening with care and helping you make sense of your experience in your own time and in your own way.

While the relationship and your voice remain at the heart of our work, I also draw on additional training where appropriate, including grounding techniques, trauma-informed practices, and gentle psychoeducation. These tools are always offered with sensitivity, and only if they feel supportive to your process.

What Informs My Practice
I hold a BSc (Hons) degree in Psychology and have trained extensively in counselling, including trauma-informed and disability-affirming approaches. My work is also supported by continueing further training in areas such as grief, sudden loss, identity and neurodiversity - informed not only by professional development, but also by personal and familial experience.

Before becoming a counsellor, I spent many years working in people-centred roles — from early years and education to elderly and palliative care. These experiences taught me the value of deep listening, patience, and presence, especially when life feels overwhelming or uncertain.

Outside of the therapy room, I have keen interests in psychology, philosophy, mythology, and history. Ways that human beings have sought to understand themselves and their world. Different ways of exploring what it means to be human. These interests deepen my respect for the complexity of people’s inner lives and support a practice rooted in curiosity, compassion, and openness.

I continue to work with the Road Victims Trust, supporting individuals and families affected by traumatic bereavement through road collisions. Work that deepens my commitment to compassionate, professional support in the face of overwhelming loss.

Initial Assessment
If you decide you'd like to work with me then you will be invited to book an initial assessment. Assessment is an important part of counselling and helps ensure that your needs and my skills and experience are well matched. This first session is 60 minutes to allow some extra time for this and so you have time to bring your narrative.

Online Sessions
Online sessions are held via Google Meet or Microsoft Teams. You’ll need a good internet connection and a private, quiet space where you feel able to speak freely and without interruption.

Phone Sessions
For telephone counselling, I will call you at the agreed time. As with online work, it’s important you’re in a space where you can speak openly and feel at ease.

Confidentiality
I take your privacy seriously and am registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). We will go over my confidentiality policy in our first session, so you can feel informed and secure from the beginning.
